The Original Film
Many would argue that The Three Caballeros is a squeal to Saludos Amigos. It’s the second film to come out of the Good Will Tour. It’s a package feature highlighting South American cultures. And it even features two recurring characters, Donald Duck and Jose Carioca.
I personally disagree with that interpretation since neither film is a continuation of a single story. They merely have similar themes. In the same way Make Mine Music and Melody Time have similar sets up to their films that in turn borrows heavily from Fantasia.
And the type of music presented in each film is yet another one of those themes. Edward H. Plumb, Paul J. Smith, and Charles Wolcott all return to compose the score and write original songs. While many other Latin composers of the day lent their own songs to the proceedings. Including the return of Ary Barroso.
