Saludos Amigos - 8

The Original Film

Saludos Amigos is the first film of what is often called the Wartime Era in Disney history. Commissioned by the US government as part of their “ Good Neighbor Policy “; Walt was asked to travel all over South America as an ambassador of good will. He took a small team of animators with him where they gathered inspiration and pre-production work for two feature films.
This was the first one made, and, along with Latin American influences in the art and story, there are many Latin influences in the music as well. This is reflective in the composers for the film. Disney stalwarts, Charles Wolcott and Ned Washington provided some of the score and one song. While popular Brazilian song writers and composers Ary Barroso and Zequinha de Abreu lent some of their own works to the film.
  1. "Saludos Amigos" - Disney Studio Chorus ( Charles Wolcott and Ned Washington)
  2. "Inca Suite" - ( Edward H. Plumb, Paul J. Smith, and Charles Wolcott)
  3. "Pedro from Chile" -  ( Edward H. Plumb, Paul J. Smith, and Charles Wolcott)
  4. “La Blanca” -  Argentinian folk song
  5. "Argentine Country Dances" -  (Edward H. Plumb, Paul J. Smith, and Charles Wolcott)
  6. "Brazil ("Aquarela do Brazil")" -  Aloysio De Oliveira ( Ary Barroso )
  7. "Tico-Tico” -  (Zequinha de Abreu)
Live Action Documentary
Along side the original film Disney released a making-of documentary called South of the Border with Disney. You can often find this on the DVD releaes of Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros.
The score is comprised of much the same music as it’s parent film.
Disney Released Remixes and Covers
