The Fox and the Hound - 32

The Original Film

The Fox and the Hound is a weird movie. Like not terms of plot or anything, but the tone, direction, and casting just screams early 80s. Just take a look at the cast list. You have Kurt Russell from John Carpenter’s The Thing, Mickey Rooney a.k.a Santa Claus in every Rankin and Bass Production, Pat Buttram from Green Acres and various other cowboy films, America’s literal ray of sunshine Sandy Duncan, Pearl Bailey the first African American to voice a Disney character since the infamous Song of the South, and the voices of both Tigger and Piglet respectively. Put them all together you got a very odd hodgepodge of actors that could only have been brought together at this one point and time in history.
  1. “Best of Friends” - Pearl Bailey ( Stan Fidel )
  2. “Lack of Education” - Pearl Bailey ( Jim Stafford )
  3. “A Huntin’ Man” - Jack Albertson ( Jim Stafford )
  4. “Appreciate the Lady” - Pearl Bailey ( Jim Stafford )
  5. “Goodbye May Seem Forever” - Jeanette Nolan and Chorus ( Jeffrey Patch )
Sequels
Fox and the Hound 2 was one of the last squeals to be made before the company abandoned it’s direct to video line. While the original film had only one or two characters to sing and featured a low-key folk/blues vibe, the squeal goes for big show stopping musical numbers and incorporates a more country/bluegrass tone.
  1. “Friends for Life” One Flew South ( Marcus Hummon )
  2. “We’re in Harmony”  Chip Davis ( Will Robinson )
  3. “Hound Dude”  - Josh Gracin ( Will Robinson )
  4. “Good Doggy, No Bone!” Reba McEntire ( Marcus Hummon )
  5. “Blue Beyond” Trisha Yearwood ( Gordon Kennedy and Blair Masters )
  6. “We Go Together” Little Big Town with The Singin’ Strays ( Marcus Hummon )
  7. “We’re in Harmony (Finale)” - The Singin’ Strays with Copper ( Will Robinson )
Disney Released Remixes and Covers
  1. “We’re in Harmony (Original Demo)” - Chip Davis
