The Original Film
Pete’s Dragon is one of my favorite live action/animation hybrid films to be made by Disney. This is due in no small part to the music by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn. Their songs comprise perhaps the catchiest soundtrack to ever be written.
- “The Happiest Home in These Hills” - Shelley Winters, Charles Tyner,Gary Morgan, and Jeff Conaway
- “Boo Bop Bopbop Bop (I Love You, Too)” - Sean Marshall and Charlie Callas
- “I Saw a Dragon” - Mickey Rooney, Helen Reddy, and Ensemble
- “It’s Not Easy” - Sean Marshall and Helen Reddy
- “Passamashloddy” - Jim Dale, Red Buttons, and Ensemble
- “Candle on the Water” - Helen Reddy
- “There’s Room for Everyone” - Helen Reddy, Sean Marshall, and Ensemble
- “Every Little Piece” - Jim Dale and Red Buttons
- “Brazzle Dazzle Day” - Helen Reddy, Sean Marshall, and Mickey Rooney
- “Bill of Sale” - Shelley Winters, Charles Tyner, Gary Morgan, Jeff Conaway, and Helen Reddy
Remake
Just this year Disney released I remake of the film, this time using CGI instead of cell animation. I’ve yet to see it, but from what I can gather the movie is less comedic in tone to the original and isn’t a musical. Oh there are songs in the film, but they aren’t sung by any of the characters.
- “The Dragon Song” - Bonnie “Prince” Billy
- “Something Wild” - Lindsey Stirling and Andrew McMahon
- “Nobody Knows” - The Lumineers
- “Something on Your Mind” - St. Vincent
- “So Long Marianne” - Leonard Cohen
- “Gina Anne” - Bosque Brown
- “The Dragon Song Revisited” - Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy
- “Candle on the Water” - Okkervil River
